After Restoration

Some interesting woods were used for different parts of the job. The new seats are Pearwood, as is the tiller and the inlays in the hatches. It works nicely, looks well under varnish and will blend nicely with the spruce spars, contrasting with the mahogany. The cabin and cockpit soles are of a mahogany called Macaranduba from South America, very hard and strong, only a few coats of oil protect it so it should fade and mellow to a warm honey colour eventually. The eyebrow trims are of purple heart but blend well. The choices for materials and colours were made partly for a concern to keep a uniformity on the boat after replacing so many parts with new wood and partly because, the woods were either cheap, or free and readily available.
